Situated in Mediterranean Europe, Italy has land frontiers with France in the north-west, Switzerland and Austria in the north and Slovenia in the north-east. The peninsula is surrounded by the Ligurian Sea, the Sardinian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea in the west, the Sicilian Sea and the Ionian Sea in the south and the Adriatic Sea in the east. Italian is the language of the majority of the population but there are minorities speaking German, French, Slovene and Ladino.

The Della Leonessa family possessed it until 1460, then the land would become the Marquis Alfonso D’Avalos’ estate, then Caracciolo’s, finally De Capua’s.
In 1754 Bartolomeo De Capua, landowner of Airola, gave permission to use the spring Fizzo freely, so that the waterfalls in the park of the Reggia di Caserta could be supplied with water.
Being grateful, the king Charles III of Bourbon gave to Airola the name of “Town”.
After 1806, on the abolition of feudalism, Airola was annexed to Terra di Lavoro, becoming part of the Province of Benevento on the un ... Read More...
