Piedmont lies in a peripherical position with respect to the rest of Italy but its relative proximity to the sea and contact with France and Switzerland have, over the centuries, led to the creation of an important commercial transit network which has favoured its present economic development.
This is the largest region of continental Italy, second only to Sicily. Its density of 174 inhabitants per sq km. makes it the fifth most densely populated region in Italy, and slightly under the national average.
The Italian regions which border with Piedmont are Valle d'Aosta to the northwest, Lombardy to the east, Emilia-Romagna to the southeast and Liguria to the south.

Museo del tesoro del duomo - Vercelli in Piemonte
Più di 1600 anni sono narrati nelle sale del Museo del Tesoro del Duomo, allestito al piano terra del Palazzo Arcivescovile: un giusto tributo alla storia della diocesi più antica del Piemonte, fondata nel 345 da Sant’Eusebio, primo vescovo di Vercelli.
I pezzi, tutti di grande pregio e di splendida fattura, fanno parte di una delle più ricche collezioni esistenti di oggetti sacri: reliquiari, urne, oggetti di culto, evangeliari, vasi sacri, realizzati con metalli preziosi e arricchiti con smalti, pietre e paste vitree, sono disposti in ordine cronologico, in modo da illustrare sia la storia dell’evangelizzazione che lo sviluppo delle tecniche artistiche.
Ad aprire il percorso è proprio il celebre evangelario di Sant’Eusebio, il Codex eusebianus.
