Lombardy covers approximately the centre of the Po Valley, as well as extending over the middle of the Italian Alps. It borders with Switzerland to the north, Emilia-Romagna to the south, Piedmont to the west and Trentino-Alto Adige and Venetia to the east. History. Three distinct natural zones can be fairly easily distinguished in the Lombardy region: mountain, hill and plain. Bergamo, ville d'art
Bergame est une ville très ancienne. Des traces d'un premier ètablissement de l'epoque protohistorique, entre le sixième siècle avant Jesus-Christi, ont ètè trouvèes sur la colline où la ville se dèveloppa par la suitte.
Ce lieu fut probablement choisi pour sa position dominante, au bord de la vaste plaine du Po entre les fleuves Brembo et Serio,dont les vallèes donnet accès à la chaine des Alpes Orobiques, connus dès l'age palèolitique.
C'est grace à ces premiers habitants que Bergame est devenue une ville aux caracteristiques toutes particulières,qui la distinguent des autres villes de Lombardie et la rendent unique dans toute la pèninsule italienne: elle se compose de deux parties: l'une sur la colline et l'autre dans la plaine.
