Situated 291 m. above sea level on a hill, in a panoramic position overlooking the valley of the Sacco River in the heart of Ciociaria (region named after an ancient type of footwear called `ciocia') lies Frosinone. An ancient centre of the Volsci Frusino peoples, proud opponents of Rome, this town was conquered by the Romans and became a Municipium in 386 BC. In medieval times it was in the hands of the Byzantines and Lombards, until in 817 the Franks gave it to the Church.
Monuments: Church of S. Benedetto (19th century Baroque), Cathedral (originally Romanesque, rebuilt after the War), Church of S. Lucia (Neo-classical).
Traditional agriculture is based on forests and pastures; over the last thirty years, the population has considerably increased and industry has developed, with aid from the Mezzogiorno Fund and with the construction of the Rome-Naples stretch of motorway. Torre Caietani - Frosinone nel Lazio
Piccolo centro sorto attorno al poderoso castello sulla sommità di un colle, a 850 metri di altitudine, a circa sei chilometri da Fiuggi. L’abitato attorno alla “torre” potrebbe essersi sviluppato intorno al X° secolo. La pergamena più antica, dove si menziona Torre, risale al 1180 e riporta il patto stretto tra i signori locali per l’organizzazione della difesa. Fin da questi anni appare la famiglia dei Caetani, la quale compei una serie di acquisti che vedono protagonisti prima Roffredo, fratello di papa Bonifacio VIII°, poi il figlio Pietro Caetani. Bonifacio VIII°, con una bolla del 1303, ratifica a Pietro Caetani tutti gli acquisti effettuati nel territorio di Marittima e Campagna. In territorio di Torre, in località “Fontanelle”si trova ancora la fonte di acqua minerale da cui attingevano i “cursori” che poi si recavano a Roma.
