Latium (Lazio) is a region in Central Italy, on the Tyrrhenian side of the peninsula, except for a small strip on the Adriatic side. Lying to the west on the Tyrrhenian Sea, this region borders to the north with Tuscany, with Umbria and for a short stretch with the Marches. To the east Latium borders with Abruzzo and briefly with Molise and with Campania to the south; within its present limits it has not, however, geographical unity.
History. The morphology of Latium is very complex but four main sub-regions can be defined: the Tyrrhenian coast, the inland plains, the mountains of the Latium Pre-Apennines and a true Apennine area. The coast is mainly low and uniform, broken only by the spurs of Linaro point, Mount Circeo (541 m.) and the Gaeta headland: the Ponzian Islands, which are part of Latium, lie opposite the south coast.

Fiuggi - Frosinone nel Lazio
Fiuggi sorge sui luoghi dell’antica “Felcia”, uno dei centri della Confederazione Ernica, su un rilievo difeso naturalmente da due fossati, a 750 metri di altitudine. La parte più alta del centro abitato, chiamata “arx”, era la più difesa e faceva riscontro a quella meno ripida, più adatta allo svolgersi della vita quotidiana, chiamata “le piagge”. La struttura medievale di Articoli di Campagna doveva seguire quasi sicuramente l’antica delimitazione dell’abitato ernico, caratterizzata da una cinta muraria con tre porte di accesso. Di queste, l’unica ancora visibile è quella della cosiddetta “portella”. Fiuggi, nel corso della sua storia, ha visto cambiare più volte la sua denominazione, “Felcia” in origine, “Articoli” dalla caduta dell’Impero Romano, “Articoli di Campagna” nel Medioevo per distinguersi da Articoli Corrado, piccolo centro vicino Subiaco, ed infine, a partire dal 1911, “Fiuggi”.
