Lying on the Tyrrhenian Sea in a sweeping curve between the mouth of the Garigliano and the Gulf of Policastro, Campania is chiefly a maritime region, a transit area and a node for the principal lines of communication which cross the Apennines, linking South Italy with the central-northern regions. It is the twelfth largest region, has the second highest number of inhabitants after Lombardy, and the highest density of population in Italy. It borders with Latium to the north-west, Molise to the north, Puglia to the north-east and Basilicata to the south. To the west it lies on the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Italy - Information on Compolattaro in the Province of Benevento
The first historical news about this village dates back to the year 1100, in the Norman age. In 1138, when the false news about the death of King Ruggero was divulged, the people rebelled against the established authorities and the king ordered the village to be burnt.
In 1530 it became part of the county of Benevento; then, during the Norman period, it was a feud of the De Capoa family first and then of the Marquess Michele Blanch, who owned it until the fall of feudalism. In 1809 it was annexed to the province of Molise and in 1861 it was incorporated in the province of Benevento.
NOT TO BE MISSED: public fountain and the typical built-up area divided into three parts: high quarter, the square around the castle and the old centre. castle and church of SS. Salvatore
