Basilicata lies in southern Italy. It faces the Gulf of Taranto (Ionian Sea) to the southeast and the Gulf of Policastro (Tyrrhenian Sea) to the southwest and borders with Campania to the west, Puglia to the north and to the northeast and Calabria to the south: its borders, largely conventional, are the result of complex historical events. Day Trips in Trentino Alto Adige
Trento-Valli di Fiemme and Fassa-Trento (km.220). This itinerary takes you past the most famous mountains in the Dolomites. Take the motorway (A22) from Trento to Egna-Ora, and then the SS 48 through the Dolomites up to Cavalese, in Val di Fiemme. From there head for Predazzo (on the way, if you like you Acan take a detour to the Pale di San Martino) and then on to Moena, at the head of Val di Fassa. On all sides are famous groups of mountains such as Latemar, Catinaccio, Sella, Marmolada. After arriving in Canazei, go up to Passo Sella (2,240 m) and then down into the Val Gardena; take the motorway at Ponte Gardena and return to Trento. For a shorter route, from Vigo di Fassa drive up to Passo di Costalunga and then down through Val d'Ega as far as Bolzano, then take the motorway for Trento. If you really want to enjoy the spectacular views, hop onto a cable car or chair-lift and go right up into the mountains.
