Sabbionara d'Avio Castle, Trentino
This is one of the most spectacular castle of Trentino. The building complex nestles around the mighty tower and is surrounded by three circles of walls.
Precious cycles of medieval art can be seen in the "guards' house" and in the "room of love".
Half way along the battlements stands the "piccadora" tower, where hanged prisoners were left to swing.
A feud of the Castelbarcos, over the centuries the castle passed through various hands: the Venetians, the Emperor of Austria, and subsequently the powerful, noble family of the Lagarinas.
It was recently bought by the F.A.I. and is now being restored.
