MUSEUM OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART - 20th Century Archive

On the 15th December 2002 the Museum opened in Rovereto in the prestigious centre designed by the architect Mario Botta. Its important permanent Collection, entitled “JOURNEY WITH THE MUSES”, highlights cultural and artistic affinities between the artists present in the Mart’s own art collections as well as some of the most important artists of the 20th century. The permanent collection is only partly visitable because of to the temporary exhibition “Montagne” open until 18th April 2004

 

HOW TO REACH IT: the A22 exit at Rovereto Nord. Once you have come off the motorway follow the directions for Mart.

ITALIAN WAR HISTORY MUSEUM

Founded in 1921, in its deposits, archives and library there is a rich collection of the cultural and social, as well as military aspects of the war.
The permanent exhibition - with weapons and uniforms, photographs, graphic works, models, propaganda posters, trench newspapers and soldiers’ letters and diaries - represents the memory of the Great War. The Museum also holds importan temporary exhibitions and promotes historical and documentary studies and researches

CIVIC MUSEUM OF ROVERETO

Founded 1851, the Museum includes a substantial archaeological collection of exhibits from Graecia Magna, history and folklore sections, a coin and medal section with over 10.000 pieces.

 

The natural history section includes zoological and mineral collections, a paleontology collection with over 7.000 fossils, a historical herbarium and a modern one, linked to the “Cartografia Floristica del Trentino Alto Adige” botanical institution. The Museum also runs an on-line databank of the geological bibliography of Trentino Alto Adige and Veneto.
Finally, it has a very modern Planetarium, which allows to study the vault of heaven. The museum organizes educational activities and guided visits to the Dinosaurs Tracks and to the Astronomic Observatory on Mount Zugna. It also places experts at the visitors’ disposal for thematic lessons at the Planetarium in the museum garden.

MONTE BALDO FOSSIL MUSEUM

The Museum houses a large, interesting collection of fossils found exclusively on the Western Monte Baldo chain, whose sedimentary rocks are particularly rich in fossils.
The collection documents the existence of groups of animals which lived in marine environments and which gradually became extinct in the 150 – 180 million years of the Post-Triassic period. The collection on display at the Museum ranges from Protozoic to Crustacean fossils.

DEPERO’S HOUSE MUSEUM

Futurist Museum. Its new format has the merit of highlighting the emblematic aspects of Depero’s intense and varied activities.
The exhibition presents a wide range of works from 1914 to 1950: paintings, sculptures, tapestries, cloth, marquetry, furniture, theatre marionettes, advertising posters and toys. The show aims at recreating the spirit of the House of Futurist Art which Depero founded in 1959 as an avant-garde workshop for the production of applied art items such as cloth and everyday objects. The Museum is now closed for restoration works.

 

“S. Nuvoli” POSTCARDS MUSEUM

The Museum houses over 23.000 postcards, divided into 19 themes, 5 of which (the Great War, political satire, the Risorgimento, Andreas Hofer and the Tyrolese uprising and the touristic resorts in Trentino Alto Adige) are displayed behind glass and open to the public.
Among the best represented illustrators there are Mauzan, eclectic Franco-Italian artist, M.Z. Diemier, a painter from Munich who provided splendid views of Lake Garda and Trentino, and Meschini, with his wonderful “pochoir” postcards. Naturally, the other subjects may be consulted, collected together in their catalogues.

 

OPENING TIME: 9.30-12.00 / 14.30-17.00, Mon to Thurs /Closed from the 15th-31st May, 15th Aug-4th Sept, 26th-31st Dec.
On request the museum may open any fourth Sun from 14.00 to 17.30.
Groups maximum 20 persons.

MUSEUM of the ANTIQUE PIANO

Plenty of noblemen, princes and even kings (among them Maria Theresia of Austria, Napoleon and W.A. Mozart) stopped on their way to Italy and Germany at the elegant Palazzo (de) Pizzini in Ala.
The rooms on the ground floor are dedicated to music and there is an important collection of pianos belonging to the pianist Temenuschka Vesselinova. They are pianos from Mozart’s, Beethoven’s and Chopin’s Age, restored and thus brought to their former splendour. The palace also houses the International Academy of Musical Interpretation with Antique Instruments. The Museum is temporarily closed

 

OPENING TIME: only the 1st Sunday of every month at 17.00 (max. 25 pax) Visits are to be guided. Visits for groups (10 to 25 persons) on other days only on booking.

MUSEUM of the COUNTRY CIVILISATION IN VALLARSA
Riva di Vallarsa.
Thanks to a group of volunteers, the Museum displays everyday tools documenting the agricultural and pastoral work which took place in this valley for hundreds of years. Divided into themes, the exhibition has its seat in an old house in Riva di Vallarsa.

MUNICIPAL ANTIQUARIUM

The Museum has its seat on the ground floor of the prestigious and recently restored Palazzo Brasavola and displays interesting items which were found in the area. It offers a panorama of the situation of this part of the Adige Valley from Prehistory to the Middle Ages.

Mon to Fri: 14.00-18.30 (library opening time) Closed on Sat, Sun and Bank Holidays.
ADMISSION free. For the visit apply to the Town hall or the library.

 

DIOCESAN MUSEUM
Villa Lagarina Palazzo Libera - Via Garibaldi, 10 - Tel. 0464.490374

 

The Palazzo Libera in Villa Lagarina is a section of the Tridentine Diocesan Museum in Trento. The section houses the artistic and ecclesiastic heritage of the Assunta’s Church in Villa Lagarina. Guided visits on request.
