Territory and Economy in Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Friuli-Venezia Giulia is an administratively autonomous region bordering on Austria and Slovenia.
It has a rich geographical morphology, with broad plains along the coast to the south as well as hilly and mountainous areas. Its main rivers, which were also those most historically important, are the Tagliamento and Isonzo. Ship and boat building in Trieste and Monfalcone take first place among the region's economic activities. In recent years, Trieste and the entire region have reasserted themselves not only as a commercial centre but also as a centre for cultural exchange and reference point for scientific research and artistic activities.
