Bolzano and the Surrounding Area
The regional capital merits a visit to its historic centre with its porticoes and marketplace in Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza Walther, where the local people meet to socialise. Also located in the centre is the Archaeological Museum where Ötzi is preserved and, outside the city, the Medieval Castel Roncolo. The Renon plateau and the famous earthen pyramids can be reached by cable-car. A few kilometres to the south of the city is the Conca dell'Oltradige, where you can follow the wine trail and visit the famous vineyards of Appiano, Caldaro (with its beautiful lake) and Termeno, hikers and bikers destination, down to the Canyon del Rio delle foglie in the Bassa Atesina.
