Riva del Garda-Trento-Rovereto-Riva del Garda (km. 97)
From Riva, take the SS45-bis Gardesana Occidentale, pass through Arco with its splendid castle, past the Marocche glaciers and lake Toblino with its romantic castle-turned-restaurant, and proceed down the valley to Trento. In Trento, well worth visiting is the Castello del Buonconsiglio, a castle of Roman origin that underwent various architectural modifications up through the Renaissance, that hosts annual art shows and a famous cycle of Medieval frescoes depicting the Months. Don't miss the Cathedral, a splendid 12th century example of Romanesque architecture, and the historical centre, with its Medieval and Renaissance architecture. Taking the Brennero SS12 to Rovereto, with its Venetian architecture, you'll find the MART, Italy's newest Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, designed by Mario Botta. Other sights include the Campana dei Caduti memorial to war heroes and the Castle. Between Rovereto and Trento you can visit Castel Beseno, a restored medieval fortress, famous for its breathtaking views. Return to Riva by the scenic route through Torbole.
