Day Trips in Apulia

From Martina Franca to Salento, the golden age was the 17th century, in quite a few cases going on into the 18th century. At these latitudes, Baroque is not the rigid architecture of the Catholic Reform, but a brilliant game of invention, which burts with expression thanks to some very maleable local sandstone and fantastic stuccoes.

There is also a "modern" itinerary. The towns scattered about the Capitanata were built between the thirties and forties by the Opera Combattenti. While the masters were designing the setting for the E42 Expo (later the Rome EUR quarter) in Rome, their pupils were exercising their skills in Segezia, Borgo Mezzanone and Stornara.
