Interesting sights to see in Trentino Alto Adige
Trentino lies among mountains and lakes (some 300 of varying size, with facilities for fishing or sailing). There are also a large number of spaAs, which are one of the region's major health attractions; but, more than anything, there are views of unparalleled beauty - endless meadows, valleys and mountains - that combine to create a remarkable natural environment. The Dolomites uniqueness lies in their ability to change colour throughout the day in the shifting light of the sun.
Lake Garda creates a microclimate with the result that Trentino, although the northernmost point in Europe, sports a Mediterranean flora (olive, live-oak and lemon trees). The population is Italian-speaking, but there is a Ladin-speaking minority and some German dialect-speaking minorities, descendents of miners who migrated from Bavaria in the Middle Ages. Three language groups co-habit in Alto Adige: German (spoken by 69%), Italian (around 27%) and Ladin (4%) in the Gardena and Badia valleys. Unemployment is extremely low (around 2%).
With over 400 castles and stately homes, this is a region full of natural beauty and cultural heritage: Ötzi, the man from 5300 years ago, was discovered under the ice of the Dolomite glaciers; in Val d'Ultimo there are the thousand-year-old larch trees and in Merano the famous Botanical Gardens, with 170,000 plants and 3,600 species. The nature reserves of Alto Adige are among the most visited in Italy. A network of cycle paths covering 600 km is nearing completion and, with its "Dolomites Superski" pass, Alto Adige is the gateway to the most extensive ski area in all of Europe: 1200 km of slopes distributed over 12 different areas.
