In January 1598 the fief of Ferrara was ruled by Papal State again ,while his successor ,duke Cesare I d'Este, moved the capital to Modena. During the next decades, especially under the direction of Francesco I, duke from 1629 to 1658 ,who was promoter of an ambitious plan aimimg to strengthen the little Estensi state, Modena became one of the European great towns of the 17th century. It takes one or two days to go over the history of the Modenese duchy by visiting the Ducal palaces , churches and museums.
The Delicious Art of Cooking
The Province of Modena is well known, all over the world, for its excellent art of cooking. It's an ancient art, achieved in the name of the genuineness, the respect of the tradition and the preservation of the flavours.
The following itineraries combine the tour of the factories with lunch/or dinner at restaurants with traditional Modenese menu:-
Day trips to: Vinegar factories: Production of the Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena. Dairies: Production of Parmigiano Reggiano. Ham factories: Modena ham. Wineries: DOC Modenese Lambrusco wines. Educational Farms : visits to orchards, cultivations, cattle-breedings…
The Land of Motors-Modena
The love of Mechanics here has a long-lasting tradition, the passion for speed is an integral part of the local culture. Here Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini were born, becoming a symbol of international prestige, high technology and impeccable elegance. We suggest the tour of the museum dedicated to the history of the several car houses, the private collections of vintage cars, car body shops.
