Italy - Information on Torrecuso in the Province of Benevento

Torrecuso, enchanting medieval village, offers a marvellous view on Mount Taburno and on the Calore Valley. Its origins date back to about 216 b.C. Some scholars think it was already unhabited in 316 b.C, maybe populated by Etruscan refugees from Chiusi, in Tuscany who called it “TurrisClusii”.

Today the town looks like a small village, characterized by meandering streets. The alleys encompass the square where the wonderful Palazzo Cito stands, turned into an old tower. This building was the feudal lords’ house, the Cito family, and today it is the Town-Hall.
The territory of Torrecuso extends from the banks of the river Calore to the slopes of Mount Pentime. The soil is exposed to the sun and it is ideal for grapevine-growing. Here the Aglianico del Taburno wine is produced and that makes this place an important food-and-wine tourist resort. In the last decades the production of other typical wine has been encouraged, such as Falanghina, Coda di Volpe and Greco, all included under the name of Taburno DOC.
