Italy - Information on Sant'Arcangelo Trimonte in the Province of Benevento
Sant'Arcangelo Trimonte is a small village, whose economy is based on agriculture. It was known as Montemalo. On 26th October 1862, by Vittorio Emanuele II’s royal decree, the village was named Sant’Arcangelo and in 1864 the place-name Trimonte was added to distinguish it from other villages in Italy with the same name. After being part of the province of Avellino, it was annexed to the province of Benevento only in 1978.
The old hamlet may have been founded by a Dalmatian colony, who settled in the village now-called Sant’Arcangelo Trimonte in 640.
The earliest news goes back to the second half of the 12th century, when Guglielmo Fontanarosa was its landowner. It was then the Caracciolo family’s, the Guevara’s feud and became the Coscia family’s estate up to the abolition of feudalism.
