Italy - Information on San Lorenzo Maggiore in the Province of Benevento
San Lorenzo Maggiore is famous for the production of excellent olive-oil and wine. Its origins date back to the 15th century, when the power of Limata, old village at the foot of the neighbouring mountain, declined. Only the ruins of the Longobard castle can still be seen of Limata, that was built by the Duke Zottone.
The historical centre is interesting because of its houses dating back to the 17th and 18th century.
NOT TO BE MISSED:
1. Ruins of an old bridge dating back to the Roman Age
2. Church of St. Lorenzo; Church of SS. Nome di Dio
3. Convent of St. Maria della Strada
