Italy - Information on Pannarano in the Province of Benevento

Pannarano, known as “Pandarano”, borders on Irpinia, at the foot of the massif of the Partenio. The Samnite tombs, found in this area, attest that it has been populated since the 4th century BC. Other finds, on the contrary, date back to the Roman Age. The built-up area developed in the Middle Ages. Bartolomeo da Montesarchio’s feud, it passed then to the Della Leonessa family, subsequently to the Marziale and to the Caracciolo families, who possessed it until to the abolition of feudalism. Annexed to the province of Principato Ultra, on the unity of Italy it was annexed to the province of Benevento. The WWF Oasis near the above mentioned mountain is an enchanting natural place, ideal for interesting excursions.
