Foiano di Val Fortore is situated offers a fascinating landscape. A small artificial lake and a farm holiday park are in the hamlet of S. Giovanni, also ideal for sport and parking.
Its origins date back to the Norman Age, but the first well-grounded news about this place goes back to 1320, being in the document mentioned as Cedolario della Capitanata.
The small feud belonged to the Abbey of Santa Maria del Gualdo di Mazzocca for centuries. The ruins of the Abbey can still be seen at a few kilometres from the inhabited area. On the abolition of feudalism it was annexed to the province of Campobasso, and on the unity of Italy it became part of the newly-built province of Benevento.
