Italy - Information on Faicchio in the Province of Benevento

Some histographers identify Faicchio, situated at the foot of Mount Monaco di Gioia, as the ancient Samnite town of Faefola; it was already mentioned by Titus Livy in his annals. It was conquered by Quinto Fabio Massimo in 183 b.C., to whom the two-arched Roman bridge over the river Titerno was dedicated.

During the Norman period it was a feud of Guglielmo Sanframondo; then it passed onto Giovanni Mansorio and finally to the De Martino, who owned it until the abolition of feudalism. Due to the presence of numerous gorges, after the unification of Italy the village was chosen by gangs of brigands seeking shelter (1861-1863).

NOT TO BE MISSED:
1. Fourth-century Samnite fortresses
2. Roman bridge
3. Thirteenth-century Ducal castle, recently restored
4. Church of Madonna del Carmelo
5. Church Ave Grazia Plena
6. Chapel St. Rocco
7. Church and monastery of St. Pasquale
