Die Burg von Rovereto - Rovereto und Vallagarina in Trentino
Geschichtlich hatte die Burg die Rolle einer Festung, und die ungleichmäßige Form macht sich die Unebenheit des Hügels für ihre militärischen Ziele zunutze. Der Ursprung der Burg ist sehr alt; auf dem Bergrücken, auf dem sie gebaut ist, stand früher wahrscheinlich eine primitive rhätische Festung. Die Errichtung der Burg geht auf das 14. Jahrhundert zurück, als die Herren der Vallagarina die Castelbarcos waren.
Auf die mittelalterliche Struktur bauten die Venezianer zwischen dem 15. und dem 16. Jahrhundert die mächtige militärische Festung, die man heute bewundern kann. Am Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts wurde die Burg von den Truppen Napoleons besetzt und im 19. Jahrhundert wurde sie als Armenhaus, Gefängnis und dann von 1859 bis 1918 als österreichische Kaserne benutzt. Im Jahr 1920 begannen die Renovierungsarbeiten für die Einrichtung des historischen Kriegsmuseums, das 1921 eröffnet wurde und noch heute zu besichtigen ist.
